About Pungo Farm

We're JC and Jodi. We grow vegetables grown using organic practices on a small farm in Virginia Beach's Back Bay/Pungo corridor — and we bring the harvest to families across Hampton Roads every week.

Who we are

Farmers Who Love Real Food

JC didn't grow up farming — he grew up in the trades, spending nearly two decades running a landscaping and contracting business. But somewhere along the way, the idea of growing food took hold and wouldn't let go. The more he learned about where food actually comes from, the more he wanted to do something about it.

Jodi came to farming the same way most people do: through the kitchen. She cares about what goes into a meal before it ever hits the pan. Together, they started Pungo Farm because they believed their community deserved better — genuinely fresh vegetables, grown using organic practices, by people you can actually meet.

They chose Pungo not by accident. Virginia Beach's Back Bay corridor is one of the last true agricultural areas in the city — rich soil, flat land, and room to grow. It felt right. It still does.

We stay small on purpose.

Spots are limited and fill up each season. We want to know our members — their names, their kids, what they do with a whole lot of kale. If you're thinking about joining, now is the time.

Organic practices. No shortcuts.

We're not certified organic — that certification is expensive and inaccessible for small farms. But we follow organic practices strictly — no synthetic inputs, nothing that isn't approved for organic growing. You're welcome to come walk the fields anytime.

We're in it for the long haul.

Pungo Farm isn't a side project. This is the work — tending the land, building relationships with members, and growing the kind of food that actually makes a difference in how your family eats. We run two seasons: a 29-week Summer CSA from April through November, and a 20-week Winter CSA from November through April. Between the two, Pungo Farm produce is on your table nearly year-round.

Why Pungo

Virginia Beach's Last True Farming Corridor

The Pungo/Back Bay area is unlike the rest of Virginia Beach. It's agricultural land — rich, flat, productive — surrounded by the Back Bay Wildlife Refuge and the Pocahontas Island area. Development keeps creeping closer, but for now it's still one of the most productive growing areas in Hampton Roads.

When you join Pungo Farm's CSA, you're not just getting good vegetables. You're supporting the people keeping this land in production — and making sure your kids can still drive past a working farm on the southern edge of Virginia Beach.
